Alfie Boe

UK’s Biggest Selling Tenor

Dear to the heart of the British public, Alfie is Britain’s biggest-selling tenor. He has sold more than a million albums, had four top 10 albums and in 2016 had a Number 1 album with Together (in collaboration with Michael Ball).

Career highlights include performing as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables (both on the West End and on Broadway); receiving a Tony Award with the cast of Baz Luhrmann’s 2002 revival of La bohème; starring in one of ITV’s Mr Selfridge, as music-hall singer Richard Chapman and more recently performing in the hit Broadway Musical, Finding Neverland, starring as J.M.Barrie.

He also performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace and the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle. An charismatic performer and entertainer, 2017 will be another busy year for Alfie – he will be performing opposite Katherine Jenkins in Carousel at the London Coliseum, and touring the  UK with Michael Ball performing songs from their new album.

As a young boy, Lancashire-born Alfie (from the fishing port of Fleetwood) dreamed of a career as a singer. He began his studies at the Royal College of Music as an opera singer, entering into a love affair with arias that has cemented him as one of the most successful classical singers of his generation. After joining the D’Oyly Carte Touring Opera Company and graduating from the Royal College, he joined the National Opera Studio and went on to the Villar Young Artists Programme at The Royal Opera House.

Alfie’s first big break came when Baz Luhrmann cast him as one of the main leads in his controversial production of Puccini’s La Boheme, having spent two years looking for the right man to fill the role. His performance on Broadway earned him a Tony Award which sits comfortably next to his John McCormack Young Voice Award and Lyric Tenor of the World Audience Award.

He signed to the Classic FM label in 2006 and issued his debut album, Classic FM Presents Alfie Boe, that year; it peaked at number three on the U.K. classical chart.

Late in 2006, Alfie moved to EMI Classics and the following spring his second album, Onward, arrived. Alfie explored his love of folk music with La Passione, a collection of Italian folk songs that was released in 2007. Performances in Kismet, Richard Strauss’ Elektra, La Traviata, and other operas ensured that his roots as a stage performer were well balanced with his recording career.

In 2010, Alfie took on the role as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables at the O2 Arena, London to commemorate the show’s 25th anniversary. He also continued this role throughout 2011 with performances as Valjean at the Queen Theatre in London. During the latter part of the year, he performed at the Last Night of the Proms and began his nationwide concert tour entitled “Alfie Boe Bring Him Home UK Concert Tour.” 2012 was packed with more concert performances, including the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace.

Alfie continued releasing albums: Storyteller in December 2012 and Trust in 2013. 2013 also saw the release of his best-selling autobiography, My Story and he appeared on our small screens, starring in one of ITV’s Mr Selfridge, as music-hall singer Richard Chapman.

His album Serenata, a beautiful collection of romantic Italian songs, was released in 2014 and he also featured on the album Classic Quadrophenia in 2015 (the rock opera is performed by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with Alfie filling the shoes of Jeff Daniels).

Alfie continues to be in great demand on both the concert and operatic stages with sold-out Tours across the UK (including the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall).

His most recent album, Together, a collaboration with Michael Ball, reached Number 1 in the official album charts in December 2016. The album is a collection of the pair’s favourite songs from film and Broadway shows, recorded in New York and Prague (with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra) and a tour is scheduled for later in 2017.

Alfie divides his time between Utah and London.
